Wines have always been an Anatolian profession since the ancient times, and as a fact, Cappadocia was one of the first wine producing areas. In the 2,000 B.C, during the Hittite era, wine production was taken very seriously and was turned into a business. The Hittites created different classes of wines and started to trade with the Assyrian and Sumerian Empires. They also nicknamed Antatolia as “Wiyanawanda” meaning “the wine country”. 

The country’s first commercial winery was built in 1925 by Turkey;s first president, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.
