DESCRIPTION

This hill is an archaeological site in Southeastern Anatolia Region of Turkey, Sanliurfa. It is believed to be a social or spiritual site dating back to the 8th millennium BCE making it the fi rst temple in the world. It consists of massive T-shaped stone pillars in 20 circles. 

With each pillar having a height of 6m, they weigh up to 10 tons. Although it is believed to be used as a temple, its actual purpose remains a mystery as no records of it was found. A German team led by Klaus Schmidt excavated the site. His research and knowledge made him believe it was a religious or spiritual settlement used by the area.

WEATHER

It’s very hot during summer months, with the temperature peaking up to 42 degrees. Rainfall is nearly as impossible during the summer period. During the Winter season, it’s very wet and cool. Snowfall is possible and Frost is common.

 

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

Holders of UK, EU and US passports require visas. Visa’s must be obtained in advance, passengers need to obtain an e-visa prior to their arrival. This can be done online at https://www.evisa.gov.tr/en/ for approximately US$20. The visa is valid for a stay of up to three months (dependent on passport holder’s nationality). For a longer stay a visa from a Turkish Embassy is required.

During Summer, its scorching hit around eastern Turkey. If you're planning to go there, take plenty of water with you and dress appropriately. Turkey is a Muslim and Secular country, this means you can wear whatever you want, the only exception is when you enter a Mosque, you will be required to wear long trousers and woman must cover their hair.
